Story Behind the Songs
01 - Daughter of the King
God prompted me to write this song through a lady from Lake Tahoe that I met in Atlanta at the Babbie Mason conference. It has been used for a ceremony for the Tiara Talk bible study written by Rhonda Mitchell. Psalm 24:10 says, The Lord is the King of Glory! That makes us sons and daughters of the King!
02 - Fish Tales
After being asked to write a song for a skit and sermon series for church, this is what was used before every skit for 6 weeks. Matthew 14:21, He fed 5000, Matthew 17:27, He provided the money to pay taxes, Luke 5:4, He told them how to catch a lot of fish, John 2:9, Jesus changed water to wine at a wedding.
03 - I Won’t Need
Phillipians 4:19 says that God supplies all of our needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. We are so needy now, but someday we won’t be.
04 - Mama Prayed
An elderly gentleman came to me after I finished singing for some folks in an assisted living home and asked me to write a song about his mama praying for him. I asked him how he knew she prayed for him and he replied, “I saw her pray for me!” What a blessing to have a praying mama! I Samuel 1:10 Hannah prayed through pain and tears and God gave her a son.
05 - All About Waiting
We are always waiting for something, but God has a perfect time for everything, and when that time comes, what a joy! Titus 2:13 tells us how to live as we wait for the blessed hope- the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.
06 - Sisters in Faith
After a singing engagement on the court house steps in Athens, a couple of ladies I met that evening contacted their friend, who was my professor in college, and she asked me to write a song for her ladies group. 2Corinthians 5:7- says that we walk by faith and not by sight.
07 - Angel on Loan
The day after I went to the funeral of a former kindergarten student of mine, I wrote this song. I had told his grandmother that he was “Just an Angel on Loan”. Ecclesiastes 3:11 say that He makes everything beautiful in his time. He sets eternity in our heart, yet we cannot fathom what he has done from beginning to end.
08 - Faded Rose Petals
This song was written when I was a senior in high school. It talks of pain and love, but the truth remains that Jesus bore all our pain and sorrow, more than we can ever imagine in this life. Isaiah 53: 4, 5- He took all of our sorrow, pain and punishment to give us peace and healing. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his son...
09 - A Mighty Fortress
This beloved hymn was sung by my family many times in the Methodist church growing up. As I have matured in my faith, it is rich with meaning to me now and is a great declaration of faith and promise. Proverbs 18:10- The name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run into it and are safe.
10 - Say So
We are sometimes inundated with thoughts that the enemy of our souls tries to plant in the garden of our hearts. Proverbs 4:23 says to guard your heart. Romans 10: 10 says to believe, confess this belief with your mouth and be saved.
11 - God Lift Me Up
We all get down at times, but we have the Lord, who will lift us up. James 4:10 says to humble yourself before the Lord and he will lift you up. Thank God we don’t have to stay down!
12 - Retire Tracks
This song was written to honor teachers who retired at the school where I used to teach. I have been privileged to work with some of the most dedicated and hard-working teachers in the world. They deserve a rest! In Matthew 11:28 Jesus exhorts us to come to him for rest.
13 - Sacrifice of Praise
I hope that when my life has entered into the eternal, those remaining will be able to praise God for what he did in and through my life. Romans 12:1 says to offer our bodies as living sacrifices, as an act of worship.
